It is another critical rain fall, is started around 12.00pm and ended around 2.00pm making it 2 hours heavy rain fall.

The problem of flood has become another case that need to be tackled in Awka capital of Anambra State. The state governor has tried enough to help develop the capital city but the problem is this: will it be that the citizen did not want development nor will it be that the contractors that are in charge of the contract is not doing well.

The development of Awka started earlier last year by Mr. Peter Obi the executive governor of Anambra state. He wants to develop the capital city so that it will be a good place to stay. He has awarded several contracts in Awka including construction of roads and repairing the bad one.

Today, it seems like the development is put some people’s life in danger. Follow what flood has cause in Awka. In records, Floods has destroyed offices, hospital and even taking people life due to the facts that people cannot help the government to achieve their goals.

The contract awarded by the state government is to build roads and drainage where flood will be passing but some people has converted it into wastebin. In the morning people use to come out side town and drop their refuge along the road and some drop their own inside the drainage, all this is acts is among the problem that people said that is the cause of what happened today in Awka.

At saint Faith, a family man was busy removing and chasing flood when rain is falling. The entered his shop and spoil something that is up to thousands of Naira. When I was asking he how he feeling about that, he said that he is not blaming the government but the people that did not want good development to come to Awka. He said that he was not at his shop when the rain start, that somebody called him on phone and told him to report to his shop before thing spoil the more. Immediately that he came to his shop, he saw that flood in entering into his shop due to the result of the rain.

This 2 hours rain causes a lot of things in Awka. After the rain stopped, there is a 30 munites traffic jam that causes some people in commercial buses to come down and start trekking to their different destinations. This traffic jam was cause because of the fear that some drivers have in the mind. A small vehicle can not pass from Round about to Saint Faith junction. This rain carried a lot of waste products and blocks the drainage where flood can pass…..

Some student where asked to stay until the flood give a way where people can pass, like Saint Primary School pupils that left the school compound before the rain started, where helped by some adult that want to cross to the next road.

This problem is what the state government need to tackle before things get worst said by one market trader in market 3. According to the trader, he is appealing to the start government controlling the situation. The drainage, starting from NITEL office to Market three is blocked now and from Market three to Dike Pack is another different thing all together.

When trying to hear from some people about the cause and remedies to this problem, they said that it will a good it if the state government will bring out a law and punishments that will be given to people that did not want the development of Awka.

The questions are. Will people obey the law? What can be done to control this situation before it will cause erosion?
