Daily Independent news paper, report on Friday that Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have begun an investigation into finances of Local Government Councils in Ogun State.

The investigation which is part of the ICPC’s System Review Mandate, is being carried out by Lagos State Office of the Commission.
According to a statement made on Thursday in Abuja by John Okor Odey, Senior Information Officer, stated that ICPC’s team of accountants and other financial investigators involved in the probe are already on Ogun State and have commenced work at Shagamu and Abeokuta South Local Council and other councils are to follow in due course.
This review of the 2008 Federation Account Allocation to local government councils has already been carried out in some local council areas in Lagos State.
It was to be noted that the exercise was aimed at restoring accountability and probity in the administration of local government councils in Nigeria.
This exercise actually started last year with the review of the 2007 allocation.
