Nigeria Federal Ministry of Health was on Tuesday debunked rumors of the advent of the A (HIN1) Influenza which is swine flu in Nigeria.

A speech by Special Assistant on Communications to the Minister of Health, Niyi Ojuolape, Late Wednesday night in Abuja said “further to the inception of the epidemic in Mexico earlier on April 2009, we immediately put measures in place to promptly detect and effectively respond to any suspected case with a view to containing any outbreak of the influenza in Nigeria.

This included the establishment of ‘National Epidemic Preparedness and Response Committee’ which include State Commissioners of Health among other very important stakeholders.

World Health Organization (WHO) case definition with surveillance guidelines and Swine Flu Laboratory guidelines was immediately disseminated to all state Ministers of Health, including clinicians in Nigeria.
