A fight between road safety official and some cyclist in Anambra state

It was another war between Anambra state Road safety men and motorcyclist for not obeying the rules. Motorcyclists were told to wear helmet when ever they are on the road. But due to bad economy, some of the cyclist refused to buy the helmet (violating the law of road safety).

This was introduced and enforces by Mr. Peter Obi the executive governor of Anambra administration. He introduced this to reduce the rate of accident in Anambra state. Few days ago, some road safety officials were bitten up by some cyclist due to accident that occurs few days ago.

I was told that the road safety men were on duty that day arresting any traffic offenders on the road. The cyclist saw them and geared-up so that he will run away from them, one of the men saw him and pushed him down. Therefore, some cyclist that was around the scene rush to revenge by chasing them with some rod and stick. After the incident, the road safetymen returned with Police and Army men and start arresting any body with motorcycle around that arena.

When I was trying to know why some of the motorcyclist refused to wear helmet, they said that the state government has tried enough by sharing some helmet to Okada people, but the issue remains that is not every body that received the helmet and due to the bad weather (economy) some of them can not afford to purchase a helmet at N2, 000.

The aim of enforcing all Motor Drivers and Motorcyclists to abide by the rules and regulation is to reduce the rate of accidents in A fight between road safety official and some cyclist in Anambra stateNigheria. There is some bad practice That Contribute to Road Traffic Accidents in Nigeria.

This modest attempt to itemize some unsafe acts or conditions in road safety is by no means exhaustive. There is the major issue of bad roads and poor emergency response that are beyond the scope of this article.

So road safety official should try to force those that do not want to obey the rules and regulations that is guiding Nigerian roads also paying attention to all the above, specifically, I’d like to mention these, Officers should also make sure that their men on the road also abide to the rule and regulation and not to use the position to cause accident or traffic jam in the express or high way roads. They should also ensure adequate training before getting behind the wheels any vehicle and Maintain regular checks of your vehicle

Finally, I will like to plead to our people to try as much as possible to help this men to stop the rate of accident in Nigeria and they should also remember that death is not necessarily the worst thing that can result from an accident. Sometimes living with the consequences of an accident can be worse. Remember, “Road safety is no accident”.
